The Jewish temple and church that were attacked are located in the city of Derbent in Dagestan, which is a stronghold of the Jewish community in the Muslim-dominated area of ​​North Caucasus. While the police station that was attacked is in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, 125 km away from Derbent.

Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee has also confirmed the attack in a statement. Dagestan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs said that a group of armed men opened fire on a synagogue and a church. Four terrorists were killed in this. Some fled, who are being searched for.
