Trump administration considers giving Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. US Vice President JD Vance said this on Sunday. Tomahawk missiles have a range of 2,500 km. If Ukraine receives these missiles, it could even target Russia’s capital, Moscow.

Vance told the media that the final decision on this deal will be taken by US President Trump. He added, “We are considering several requests from European countries.”

Last week, during the UN General Assembly in New York, Ukrainian President Zelensky requested Tomahawk missiles from the US. Zelensky said these missiles could compel Russia to engage in peace talks.

Tomahawk missiles hit targets at subsonic speed of 880 km/hour. They can carry weight up to 1,600 kilograms.

America will first sell to Europe, then Ukraine will receive

According to media reports, Trump was initially against giving long-range missiles to Ukraine, but he is upset with Russian President Putin’s refusal for peace talks. Instead of giving Tomahawks directly to Ukraine, America may sell them to NATO countries, who can then provide them to Ukraine.

Russia has strongly protested against Vance’s statement. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said these missiles will not bring any major change on the battlefield, but raised the question of whether their targets will be determined by America or Ukraine.

Russia claims it can stop Tomahawk missiles

Russia says it has air defence systems capable of intercepting Tomahawk missiles. Russian military expert Yuri Knutov warned that Trump’s decision to supply them to Ukraine could further damage relations between Moscow and Washington.

Earlier, President Putin had warned that any use of Western weapons against Russia would be seen as “direct participation” by NATO.

Russia’s interior regions within Tomahawk missile range

Tomahawk missiles could allow Ukraine to target military bases, air defense systems and logistics hubs in Russia’s interior regions.

These missiles can strike much further than Ukraine’s current ATACMS missiles (300 km range). However, they require special launchers and training to operate. The US has some older Tomahawk launchers that could be used for Ukraine.
